Conceptualized by Joana Bastos Gomes and her husband João, Pura Comporta is more than just a vacation home; it’s a love letter to the laid-back charm of Comporta. As Joana herself says, “We really want everyone that comes to Comporta to fall in love.” Here, time melts away as guests immerse themselves in the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounds the property.

Renowned architect João Pedro Falcão de Campos masterfully translated this philosophy into the villa’s design. “We were aiming for an architectural design inspired by the Alentejo houses with tiled gable rooflines and white walls,” says Joana, describing the region’s traditional village style. “This house could only exist on this plot in Comporta,” Falcão de Campos echoes, emphasizing the harmonious connection between the villa and its surroundings.
Here, amidst the serenity, surrounded by the charms of nature and its wide rice fields, it’s surprising to realize how close we are to the bustling Lisbon and even the lively Comporta scene.

Throughout the house, there are decorative elements and cozy nuances of Portuguese origin. Step inside, and the panorama unfolds before you. Timber shelves and bespoke furniture crafted by local artisans create a sense of warmth and understated elegance, just as Joana envisioned. Pops of colour are introduced through handwoven rugs and ceramics by local talents, a constant reminder of the rich heritage that imbues the space. “We are fortunate enough to live in Portugal where there are great artisans,” says Joana. Her passion for supporting local craftspeople is evident in every detail.
Outside, the sprawling deck along the north facade offers mesmerizing views of verdant floodplains bathed in natural light, as Falcão de Campos describes. On the villa’s southern side, a private sanctuary awaits. Here, a heated pool beckons for refreshing dips, while sun loungers invite languid afternoons spent soaking up the golden rays. The scent of pine trees carried on the ocean breeze completes the idyllic scene.

Pura Comporta isn’t just a feast for the senses; it’s a haven for creating lasting memories.
Spring awakens the Alentejo with vibrant energy. Fields of wildflowers erupt in a riot of colours, blanketing the landscape in a profusion of pinks, yellows, and purples. The air hums with the buzz of returning birds, and a sense of renewal hangs in the atmosphere. Long walks on the beach become even more delightful as the temperature climbs, and the invigorating ocean breeze provides a welcome counterpoint to the warm sun.
Summer unfolds in all its glory.. The sun-drenched days are perfect for indulging in water sports or simply relaxing on the endless stretches of Comporta’s pristine beaches. Take a refreshing dip in the villa’s pool, or grab your surfboard and catch some waves. Evenings are best spent lingering over al fresco meals on the terrace, the sound of the ocean waves providing a soothing soundtrack to your conversations. As the fiery hues of sunset paint the sky, gather around the fire pit and share stories under a blanket of stars.
Autumn’s arrival paints the Alentejo in a warm palette of golds and russets. The crowds have thinned, and a sense of tranquillity descends upon the landscape. Enjoy long bike rides through the countryside, taking in the beauty of the changing leaves. Foodies will delight in the bounty of the autumn harvest, with local restaurants showcasing the region’s freshest seasonal produce. As the days shorten and a cool breeze whisper through the pines, cozy up by the fireplace with a good book, relishing the peace and quiet of Pura Comporta.
And then it comes Winter, which holds its own charm at Pura Comporta. Long, leisurely lunches at beachside restaurants or exploring the historic towns of Évora and Monsaraz paint a different picture of paradise. Whether it’s the vibrant summer energy or the serene winter calm, Pura Comporta offers a sanctuary for the soul, a place to reconnect with nature, loved ones, and oneself.
